The Evolution of Operating Systems
An Idea of Operating Systems Through Generations: From DOS to Present Complicated OS
In this regard, operating systems, abbreviated as O/S, have developed with time from the years of DOS, which was a command-driven operating system requiring input to execute commands by writing them in text form. The DOS operating system was the lifeblood of all microcomputers in the 1980s providing its users with the simplest form of utilities for organizing files and running programs.
The 1990s also saw the emergence in the market of computer operating systems, like Windows and MacOS, which ushered in a new era in computing by introducing the concept of a graphical user interface, interactive with users through icons, windows and a mouse and was hence more user friendly.
In simple terms, as time went by, machines and their corresponding O/S are made more advanced. Operating System - which is also known as O/S, embraced the customizability of its interface design and functionality which led to Linux gaining a huge market share. To add to this, the current O/S which include Windows 11 and later, macOS, and Android achieve fluidity in user machine interaction even bringing in multitasking, very high security levels, cloud services and even bringing in artificial intelligence components.
With the growing reliance on the production and distribution of technology, operating systems in the very near future will likely encompass even more advanced incorporation with AI and cloud services. This will come in the sense of enhancing the existing systems to be more intelligent and more flexible than they are now in the interaction with users.
